Can someone help me understand No-CB ireland exodus strategies?

I've no cbed into east frisia and joined the HRE a few times as odoyev/theodoro etc., but I want to try out the no cb ireland strat too.

how do you afford running a colonist with that terrible irish land and how do you protect yourself except for a muscovite alliance (russia and massive debt is a very common thing) as e.g. trebizond/moldavia?

Or rather, what's the point of colonizing the new world when it only gives you colonial nations that don't strenghten you as quickly as direct conquest when you're a small nation?

as an HRE member you're very safe, but in ireland you run the risk of scottish and english ambitions targeting you.
