Is the importance of family wealth / help undersold in the Bay Area?

Combined household income of 400k a year, fell into a bag of money from an ipo while working 60 hours a week for 4 years and 7 other stock certificates worth nothing from other startups. Been with two companies through bankruptcy and got laid off. Born in the bay area, parents hard to move away to afford a life. Every 10 years all my friends leave the bay and I have to make new friends all over.

Finally bought a house about 3 years back a bit outside the bay area and our mort is 500 a month cheaper than the loft we rented in sf. We have amount of property measured in multiple acres, and we can afford one kid.

Go remote, keep your pay, live your life instead of living work.
