The importance of hanging out with the right guys

I also signed up to be the school mascot, which meant that I'd always be hanging out with the cheerleading/dance teams.

Yo ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) ... Not a bad idea lol. I think I might do the same next fall.

While it's cool to hangout with alphas too sometimes they can drag you down as well. Had a lot of "dark triad" friends growing up and I think I was a little bit dark triad myself (grew out of it).. Most of my friends got laid A LOT and when I mean a lot I mean one of my best friends banged around 50 different girls by the time he was 21.

But these guys were also criminals who were in and out of jail or just had shitty negative mindsets.. Drug dealers, wannabe gangbangers, violent etc.. I used to be pretty beta but got laid a few times just by proxy (and the fact that the girls banging me probably wanted to ladder climb to my alpha friends).

It's weird being in college now and hanging out with these kids like your hall mates.. They literally know nothing about the real world cause they stayed inside and played video games and stuff and probably had very nurturing families. I remember being 19 and getting in a huge brawl with my squad at some club because we had beef with some dudes there. My mom was also a full blown drug addict (luckily she's recovered now and been sober for a year).

But where I'm trying to go with this rant is it's pretty hard for me to socially relate to the average kid at my school.. Not to brag, but my school is ranked at #1 in the US for what people come here to study and I'm from a total white trash working class town full of bikers, pregnant teenagers and heroin junkies.. Lots of my friends (I no longer associate with these ppl btw) have done time in jail, a few of them have raped chicks before.

Some "alpha bros" are going to get you into trouble by association.. Hence why mom always said "be a good boy" type of stuff cause she doesn't wanna see you getting locked up. But there are benevolent alphas too like the ones OP describes.. The guys you look up to and learn from at your college internship, fraternity brothers, your teammates if you play sports, your priest/pastor if you're into going to church, etc..

Similar to your "5 closest friends" statement.. I had a sociology prof in community college that said "Show me who your closest friends are and I'll tell you who you are". Shit is REAL.
