Important Info On COVID-19

China has a population of over 1.4 billion people. The death toll as of today is 3,270. Do some math on that, that’s an immensely small portion of the population.

This is true and the relatively low death rate can easily make it seem like this isn't that serious.

The really important thing to consider is that out of the total 81,093 cases and the 73,000+ recoveries, how many of those required hospitalization?

More than actual deaths they are trying to prevent a situation where thousands of people are all sick at once who require hospitalization. That would be a disaster as most health care systems and hospitals are not designed to handle thousands at once. We don't have enough staff, supplies or equipment.

You can't turn people away who are sick and need a ventilator. You can tell people who aren't that sick, otherwise healthy and have a low grade fever to go home and take self care measures like take ibuprofen, rest and drink water but if someone comes in with a high grade fever of 103+ gasping for air, you have to help them.

Logically, the more people who get infected with Covid-19 the more people who will be severely sick to the point they need hospitalization. The fewer people who are infected, the fewer severe cases there will be.
