The bigger the skill gap, the more demoralizing the game is gonna be for the bad casual players to play the game. Less players = less sales. EA has proved with a lot of games and franchises that all they care is money. The higher the playerbase, more sales = EA happy.
And it's just too obvious, I've been watching my brother play (he's a casual, currently Div 6) and there's already people abusing AI defending and spamming cutbacks, finesse shots and lobbed through balls.
The online way they're gonna make a proper game is if they stop selling (which is not gonna happen) or if another game makes actual competition (eFootball I doubt it, hopefully UFL is decent, but it already got delayed)
