Imposter syndrome - help

Keep it simple! Geriatric population have LOTS of functional limitations. Ask them “what are you having the most difficulty with this week?” And focus on that for the session. Or with evaluations I will ask “give me the top 3 things you’re having the most difficulty with” and take objective measures based on that (ie transfers > 5xSTS.)

Remember- you know more than they do so you will definitely be able to help them. And what matters most is that they enjoy working with you so they come back to complete their POC. If they’re not plateauing, maybe they aren’t doing their HEP or they are at a point in life where plateau IS progress. It’s great to critically think and focus on honing our skills but some patients will plateau regardless of what you do

I remember feeling like you when I started. I promise it gets better, slowly, over time when you take more CEUs and just get more experience. Even experienced PTs will often disagree with each other about treatment plans. Be kind to yourself and know you’re doing the best you can and making a difference, even if you are still building your confidence and knowledge
