Is it inappropriate to have gamer friends way younger than you?

This is interesting and I think changes based off of every single individual circumstance. Its not black and white. Take competitive gaming for example you have young people 15/16/17 who are showing massive potential to become pro gamers and they join Orgs with people in their mid 20s/30s. Its the same as sports in that case, its not weird to have a 30 year old man coach a young woman's basketball team.

When I was younger I was always around older people that were kind of big brother/sister/mentor figures and we gamed together all the time. CAN things go completely wrong? Sure, but that can happen in any facet of life. It should probably be regulated by the parent tho if the individual is too young as all internet/social media should be. I scroll through tiktok and legit see women's bare breasts out all the time. Back when I was their age finding a magazine in a random bush was borderline life changing.
