I tell you what and it's not some hippy bullshit, but democracy is overrated esp. in such large economies. Also, I don't know the solution to this but people don't really choose in democracy + capitalism.

As you said BJP was able to do well because they got most of the corporate funding, and these corporates are not dumb or viraat enough to fund a party like BJP just for nationalism or the welfare of people! Corporates are selfish, and they fund because they need to have a say in how the government run things. Crony capitalism is an inevitable part of capitalist democracy. Many people will find the concept of legal lobbying absurd, but the truth is, it's inevitable. You can't say 'No' to someone who puts you in power esp. when they can throw you out next time. Atleast regulating and making it transparent is the least a democracy can do.
