Incoming grad student for Human Factors/Ergonomics

Hi! I’m an incoming grad student for Human Factors/Ergonomics as well, but I also did my undergrad at SJSU so I can help out with a few of the questions.

  • I’m from SoCal, and I honestly really like living in San Jose, however it is pretty different. If you’re planning on living near SJSU, the downtown area has a lot of bars and restaurants, but not too much else in terms of entertainment.

-  The biggest piece of advice I can give to make the transition much easier once the school year starts is to join a club on campus. There are a ton to pick from and it the best way to meet new people and find a solid group of friends.

- As for the grad program, I obviously haven’t started yet, but spoke with the Department Head last year. The two main things he noted was that it is an interdisciplinary program so there are students and professors from a variety of backgrounds, and that while it’s not required, most students have an internship by year 2 if that is something you are interested in. The department head is really approachable so I would highly recommend emailing him if you have any program specific questions.

Hope that helped at least a little bit! Feel free to PM me if you have any other questions.
