Incoming Grad Student with Housing Questions

Leases don't start at any specific time. A lot of leases here end around the time spring term ends (June/July). Leases are usually anywhere from 6 to 12 months long. I myself have lived in quite a few places in Corvallis and they have all been on a month to month basis rental agreement. I wouldn't worry too much about finding somewhere to live.

Corvallis itself isn't very big. If you get yourself a cheap bike, commuting to school from further distances is very doable. The city buses here are free too. There is plenty to rent near campus, but the closer to campus the more expensive it'll be, and usually by a lot. Cheapest places are going to be south town, down 9th street towards Circle Blvd, and further north.

I would utilize craigslist for looking for an apartment and then looking at the different Property Management's websites (Duerksen, Pinion, Sterling, At Home, etc) they all post the places they have for rent currently and some that are coming up later in the future. Most of them will post pictures of apartments and everything. Im pretty sure with Duerksen & Associates , you can send them info on what you're looking for and they will keep in contact with you on what is and will be opening up.

Not knowing anybody and moving here makes it hard for a roommate situation, but craigslist would honestly be your best bet. There are also people renting rooms in houses they own or garages they turned into studios. There are plenty of studio arpartments around town that are fairly cheap ($400-500/month), I would advise you to stay away from Fillmore Inn studios though. They are single rooms with shared bathroom/kitchen with three other people, plus they charge enough for you to be able to pay for a single bedroom apartment in certain parts of town.

I wouldn't overly worry, just keep checking craigslist and be on the look out.

Good luck!
