Stage productions need to hold an attentions audience for multiple hours, and don't have fancy visual effects and editing to captivate viewers. This is why Cursed Child has stuff like the Trolley Lady throwing candy bombs. One of the few things stage productions can rely on to keep viewers' attention is pyrotechnics and practical effects. Things like bombs are easy to do, flashy, and fun.
