Independence Day: Rejuddhirschiffication - your opinions

I really liked it as a kid but hadn't seen it since then. I actually just watched it this morning and...

I still really like it. Is it flawed? Absolutely. The characters are 2 dimensional, there are some really groan inducing lines of dialogue and the fact that you're supposed to believe that Jeff Goldblum hacked the mother ship with a 90s Mac laptop is hysterical. But even with all that, I still really enjoyed myself. I'm sure that's mostly from nostalgia, but whatever.

Also, say what you will about Emmerich, but I like how he makes movies with such large scopes. Granted, that's probably the reason that they get unwieldy and that things just seem to happen for script purposes rather than as a logical progression (Goldblum and Smith need to meet? Guess Will Smith will just have to crash his jet right outside of area 51!). Still though, I think that's what keeps this film interesting. If another movie had a slower pace and the same logical issues it would drive me crazy. But with Independence Day by the time I realize how stupid something is we're already on the next scene and I can't dwell.

TLDR; It's not a good movie, but I don't really give a shit. It's a guilty pleasure that I'm almost positive I'll watch a few more times in my life.
