India will sell only electric cars within the next 13 years

India’s Energy Minister Piyush Goyal says the government will financially support the initiative for the first two or three years, but the production of electric vehicles will be “driven by demand and not subsidy” after that.

So, in other words, this is yet another clickbait headline?

It's rather foolish to make such bold claims such as this. Germany announced something like this a while back and I'm willing to bet money that they are still going to be selling Gasoline/Diesel powered vehicles by 2030 in some capacity.

Electric cars simply cannot reliably haul large/heavy loads like diesel and gasoline-powered vehicles can. How do I know this? A friend of mine owns a Tesla Model X and tried loading it up with almost 1600 lbs worth of passengers and cargo (5 passengers weighing 180-240 lbs each plus luggage). That's almost 200 lbs beyond the rated payload capacity for this vehicle. All that extra weight is murder on the battery.

He usually gets nearly 300 miles on one charge. He barely got over 100 by overloading it.
