Indians who have traveled and lived abroad, what advice would you give first time travelers regarding culture and norms that are different outside India?

• You will need a Adapter for your Laptop charger since the country you are visiting might have different type of Plug-Socket configuration. Your socket might not have a switch button so you need to plug out device everytime after use to avoid domestic fires. You can buy separate chargers for your Smartphone/Tablet with local configuration if they are cheaper than Adapters, or use same adapter for charging both Smartphone and Laptop, but be sure to buy good one so it won't short-circuit. • If you are traveling North, be sure to wear warm clothes since weather can be unpredictable and weather cycles are different than in India. Despite cool weather, stay hydrated, drinking water may not be free sometimes. • Be prepared that you might be eating food that you might find bland and tasteless, and your digestion cycles might be disturbed. Use sour cream. You might be eating canned and frozen food. Tropical fruits are going to be costly. STOCK EGGS EVERYTIME THEY ARE ON SALE. • Get bonus/point cards, sign up for loyalty programs of shops, especially grocery stores. • If you are getting a bank account, ask for an additional card that works on local payment systems (ie. the ones other than UnionPay, JCB, Mastercard, Visa or Amex) since they have some great offers on purchases. • Avoid drinking alcohol if you are going to stay out for long in Winters, alcohol can easily dehydrate you and worsen the condition. • As others pointed, do not be loud in Subway/Tram/Train/Bus, though I'd say things are different in Summers. • Do not walk to any random person and ask (beg) for selfies, or take photos/videos of random person, people value their privacy and overall it's very rude. I have seen Indians walking up to random White women and ask for selfies or take pictures with them, they usually are really creeped out and Indians fail to see the picture here. I have seen Indians approaching White women and being total weirdos and surprised when some guy comes and punches the s#*t out of them. • Learn how to address people in the country you are visiting, you can't address everyone as Sir and Ma'am everywhere and people might find it odd. • Lastly, LEARN AT LEAST BASIC PHRASES OF THE LANGUAGE OF THE COUNTRY YOU ARE VISITING.
