Why is Indonesian school so intense?

I had really fond memories of high school. Walking to school from 5:30, back home at 6 pm. School subjects often had contradictory sources (looking at you, prakarya), teachers not guaranteed to even understand the stuff they're teaching (english teachers), entire school days spent not doing anything because for some reason the teacher refused to go to class and instead gave pages and pages of homework. Bullshit psychotests, tests obsessed with trying to emulate academic competitions using "cute" and "unintuitive" questions and not actually testing the student's understanding of the subject (math). And realize that at the end of the day the vast majority of students barely even passed the KKM.

Thank god Chrystal, Gelfand, Lang, Kiselev, Spivak, etc made self-study actually viable, often a better alternative than the bullshit I have to go through every day.
