INFJ’s and nursing! Any infj nurses/healthcare professionals out there?

I'm not a nurse, but I have a friend who is looking to get out of nursing. I think it's a very emotionally taxing profession, which explains the massive demand. She's not an infj, but she's still very sensitive and emotional (not sure what type, but some sort of extrovert, possibly an enfj). One thing that she wasn't ready for was losing patients that she grew attached to. She told me she would cry in the bathroom and have to get back to work. She said the hardest losses were the younger patients that seemed fine when they arrived. She also didn't get to make decisions for their care; it's mostly routine tasks performed over and over. The decisions are left to doctors and the hospital's protocol. Although nursing jobs are extremely important, you might get frustrated over how little control you actually have in caring for your patients. There is also a bit of a gross factor in cleaning up after extremely obese and elderly people that sometimes refuse to cooperate, creating a lot of conflict. She did say taking care of patients hands on was still rewarding though.

I have some other friends in nursing that don't mind the job at all. Their personalities seem a lot more stoic and easy going in comparison. There are many different career paths within nursing that might suit you, so it's still worth taking a look at, but I would also keep in mind that some other medical jobs are available. My one friend quite enjoys being a Physical Therapist, which I think fits INFJs well. As an INFJ, I would probably explore some other career options before you decide on nursing. There is a lot of job security in nursing though as it will always be in demand.
