Ingmar Bergman was "almost a fascist, a Nazi sympathizer" and "not a nice person", claimed Roy Andersson, who studied under him at film school. I never heard or felt this coming through in his films. (discussion)

Yeah, I don't get it either although the downvotes may be more due to my comments about Americans if anything. Since it seems a lot of Americans don't like to be told they project their cultural and social views onto the world as if only they exist.

Just because I said this was/is in some cultures the mentality doesn't mean I'm defending it? I am saying that because I come from one of these traditional cultures and I KNOW it's a reality. Are people shocked that men treat women like this in patriarchal cultures lol?

I'm going to tell Americans something shock.. in Eastern Europe you can find some cultures that have "bride markets" where you go to a market to find a wife. In other ones they still have "bride kidnapping" where men kidnap women, rape them and force them into marriage. Europe is not homogenous, there is no such a thing as a white culture lmao. Some European cultures are more similar to some cultures in Asia i.e., and the reality is in some of these cultures it's not viewed as rape when a man forces himself on his wife and can even be seen positively.

I'm partially of Eastern European descent myself but am from Latin America. Even in Latin America among certain ethnic groups it's seen as positive for men to beat their wives. This isn't a joke, in the Andes its called Amor Serrano and some women, mainly Indigenous, equate an abusing husband to a loving one.

This is still the reality of the world..
