US Initial Jobless Claims skyrocket to 3,283,000

Look I just can’t let you go on continuing thinking this way. First, as I said, making a causal inference here wouldn’t be possible here because we are not going to perform a controlled experiment where we financially fuck up one group of people and let a similar group go on without such disruption and look to see the suicide rates. However we can draw correlations and trust me on this the correlation for suicide and economic downturns is pretty strong. There are loads and loads of studies on this so please have a look and then come back and tell me I’m wrong.

On the other hand, the causal relationship for Covid-19 and death is similarly not casual due to what’s referred to as comorbidities which make it difficult to directly identify covid-19 as the cause of death. Again, we are not performing a controlled experiment where we infect and not-infect two groups of people with similar characteristics and seeing the outcome.

So, similarly unless you’re going to try to make the argument that all of the data on fatalities due to covid-19 are “unclear”, you’re missing the point.
