Ah I see. You sound like an empathetic person but when it comes to reciprocation you never get it back. That's a great quality to have which is missing in most of the people today and therefore you have to set a threshold because people with such personality traits tend to attract a lot of narcissists and it's something which you can never change.

If these people are your college mates or likewise then you can stay in contact with them but have another friend circle which consists of people you are looking for. I know it's hard because it's the same with me as well. Also you have to keep in mind these days life is very hectic, our mind is always indulged in one thing or the another. So, if you find even one person who is the same/similar like you, be completely grateful and let them know every now and then. Eventually you two will create a strong bond or genuine friendship over a period of time.
