Insane and maybe awesome Whispers theory/explanation I just thought up. [FF7 and FF7R SPOILERS!!!]

A theory I've been thinking about after seeing so much backlash about the whispers and fate etc. is that they were introduced essentially for the sole purpose as a visual cue for anyone who played the original as to where the story was trying to divert - either in a small or a big way - from the original.

If you think about it, they were around quite a lot, but only actually intervened when something different was being attempted that didnt fall in to the original storyline. The ending of remake was just a giant battle for the original players that, ironically, we probably all fought hard to get through, not realizing the entire time that we were fighting to break away from the original storyline.

Hence all the flashbacks of iconic scenes we all know and love. That was the throwback for us and allowed us to see what was slipping away as we fought on. And for new players? An added layer of mystery. The whispers were defending the way "fate" has it, the way the original storyline played out.

And for anyone who didnt play the original, well, that ending seemed just as out of place for us too not just you lol but I dont think it was as much of a shock to you as it was to us.
