Sarah Champion isn't as harmless as she seems. She's MP for Rotherham. Rotherham is where the Rotherham sexual abuse scandal happened

Now you could say that she took over in 2012. Still the scandal was still going on. And Denis McShane (her predecessor who resigned over expense fraud) said of it that

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Denis_MacShane#Other_issues_and_incidents

MacShane was MP for Rotherham during the period of large-scale sexual abuse of children in the constituency. After the publication of the Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Exploitation in Rotherham he commented on a BBC radio broadcast that as a “Guardian reader, and liberal leftie” he had backed off from confronting the Muslim community over what was going on, and added “I think that I should have burrowed into it"

So there's a fair chance she knew of it. She did say after the Jay report that

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sarah_Champion_%28politician%29#Rotherham_child_sexual_exploitation_scandal

In response to the Jay Report released in August 2014 which found 1400 victims of child sexual exploitation in Rotherham between 1997 and 2013, Champion applauded the council for apologising and accepting the report

I.e. she blamed the council and implicitly avoided responsibility. Still she was elected by people in Rotherham and had surgeries there.

When UKIP said that as MP she must have known she sued them

http://www.theguardian.com/politics/2015/jan/13/labour-mps-sue-ukip-mep-jane-collins-rotherham-child-sex-claims

Rotherham’s three Labour MPs are taking legal action against the UK Independence party MEP Jane Collins for saying that they knew about widespread child sex abuse in the city.

Sarah Champion, John Healey and Kevin Barron are suing Collins – who represents Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire in the European parliament – for libel and slander for accusations she made in her speech at last year’s Ukip party conference.

Suing someone for saying you must have known that 1400 girls were raped and enslaved in your constituency is a very dodgy thing to do. In Singapore the government have used libel lawsuits to bankrupt opposition MPs when they criticizes it and have thus silenced criticism.
