INSIGHT: How IPOB uses disinformation to push secession agenda

I am not Nigerian, but I have been following the biafra movement for some time, and it seems like on the one hand they're a large and distinct enough group that I can understand why they might want the autonomy, but on the other hand I wonder how much sense this would make in a world that looks to divest from petroleum energy and products. I really do feel that people should have the right to draw their own borders, I don't blame them one bit if they don't like the borders colonizers through for them, but there are quite a few secessionist movements around the world that all seem to hinge economically on the idea that people will gain control of and/or increase production of oil in those geographic regions. So it seems like there are always people who want to harness the idea of solidifying a collective identity in the name of grabbing some power and money for themselves.

And then in the few cases where it isn't about oil, like Catalonia in Spain, it's even more pedantic and about the right to avoid taxation.
