Inspired to pick up a pencil for the first time since I was little.

After visiting Princess Rinielle's wonderful gemsona generator, I was inspired to draw something for the first time in at least a decade. So if it looks like something a kid drew, you know why.

The concept called for a Axinite gem (cloudy and brown in color) with wings. I borrowed from some Pacific Northwestern tribal designs for their design. Her backstory is that she remained behind on Homeworld to advocate for the rebellion from within the Homeworld system. The staff isn't really meant as a weapon, but as an indicator of their status as a diplomat.

The notion of a gem without any real weapons to speak of staying back on homeworld to advocate for the rebellion really struck a chord for me. My 4x great uncle was the chief of my tribe when we were forcibly removed from our ancestral lands to Indian Territory, now Oklahoma. As a tribe, we opted to not take up arms to defend our sovereignty but instead take up our battle in the US courts and on the floor of Congress. He reasoned that it was our best chance of dispelling notions that we were uncivilized savages, which was the justification at the time for our removal. The unspoken justification of course was that gold was discovered on our lands. Though the US Supreme Court ruled in our favor, and we were successful in lobbying many US Congressmen to support us, ultimately we lost the vote to prevent our removal by one vote. After being forcibly marched to our new reservation, he spent his remaining years tirelessly traveling to and from Washington DC advocating for our tribe's interest. He died while still in office shortly after making the following comment which I have always found inspiring. "I am an old man, and have served my people and the Govt of the United States a long time, over fifty years. My people have kept me in the harness, not of my seeking, but of their own choice. I have never deceived them, and now I look back, not one act of my public life rises up to upbraid me. I have done the best I could, and today, upon this bed of sickness, my heart approves all I have done. And I still am the same man of former years, unchanged."
