The Instagram Account Showing “Ivy’s” More Eclectic Side – Put This On

A lot of people (especially over at /r/NavyBlazer) are almost militant about what Ivy/trad is and isn't as /u/jlord339 mentioned.

Unfortunately, they also seem to forget the roots of Ivy, which stems from schools full of adolescents and young adults – kids who will bend the rules for the sake of it. There's a lot of deliberate "incorrectness" in Ivy when you dig deeper, stuff like wearing crewneck sweaters with the neck offset to the back – over a club tie, no less. The infamous Brooks Brothers Fun Shirt. Stuff that's "proper" only in name and category, but a no-so-subtle "fuck you" to the administration.

Here's a quote from one particular post on Ivy-Style.com:

The conformism and social canon of the Ivy Style and its associated WASP life is such a deeply Catholic worldview, but that it need to appear to challenge that worldview (the somewhat-inappropriate-to-the-settingness of it all) is so Protestant. But that it tries to challenge the appropriateness from within is so Catholic. That proper New England families shouldn’t show any of that challenge is so Protestant.
