Instead of comparing Season 4 to Seasons 2 and 3, try comparing it to Season 1A

Some of us don't care about plot, we just want episodes that are entertaining. "Together Breakfast", "Cat Fingers", "Giant Woman", "Onion Trade", "Steven and the Stevens", all these episodes had this up-beat energy that made watching them flow by. Now, it seems like I'm waiting to get to the end of each episode. I can't say what's missing--is it the music? The rhythm of the shots? The decreased humor? But something is.

I don't know if anyone else took it as meta-commentary in "Tiger Philanthropist" when Amethyst talks about how she created Purple Puma when she was a different person and it isn't quite working for her now. Or, on the flip side of things, when Lars admits he doesn't know what he wants from Tiger Millionaire, just that it's not the same anymore. That's kind of how I feel about Steven Universe.

I'm really hoping this is just a slump, but I don't think you can say filler episodes are the only thing going on with the show right now. Season 1 was nothing but filler, but it's so much more fun to watch (and rewatch) than season 4.
