Internalized Homophobia: How Has it Effected You? And How Have You Overcame it?

When I was younger I had a lot of internalized homophobia due to very religious parents. I looked online on how to make myself straight, I tried to hypnotize myself, I tried to go to a pray the gay away camp, and I started hating myself. It was rough period of time where I was suicidal because of what sex I was attracted to. The worst part of it was that I couldn’t talk to anyone because I was in the closet. I overcame my internalized homophobia by watching gay YouTube couples and seeing how happy they were. I realized that there was nothing wrong with me liking men and that’s when the internalized homophobia kinda started to go away. Thankfully now I’ve accepted who I am and I’m now a much happier person!
