The Internet is actively killing us.

This reliance we have on the internet is like a bad dream that doesn't end. It's like some movie we've been sucked into that should have finished years ago yet keeps on going.

The internet is a wonderful tool but it is simply not being used correctly. It has replaced jobseeking, education, relationships as if it is some kind of magical quick fix for everything. Unfortunately problems will always exist and the internet cannot solve everything.

Except we've now maneuvered ourselves into the position where we believe that. We really depend on the internet for everything. Everything from studying a degree to basic survival requires being glued to the computer screen for hours. We can barely go an hour without being forced to look at them and it's horrible.

It hasn't made getting an education or finding work easier. The market is swamped with billions of low-quality courses and employers are deluged with hundreds of applications every time they advertise a single job. And it has also replaced real communities with virtual ones which are inferior in every way.

It's also become harder and harder to determine what is "real". The diversity of culture, opinion and class is noisy and confusing. The content we consume has little consistency or relevance and scrambles the expectations and standards we need to communicate clearly. By giving everyone a voice, no one can be heard.

Sadly it's not going away and we're going to have to live with it. Perhaps the best thing we can do is slowly chip away by limiting use. This nightmare isn't going to disappear by itself, it needs to be woken up from by force.
