Internet went out in my Airbnb so had to improvise view from my room. #barbados

I had an AirBnB in Peru once that touted its great internet and 100 channels of cable TV. My girlfriend is Colombian and she wanted to watch her soap operas and I need fast internet for my work. We get there and there is no cable and no internet. The host gives us some crap about there's construction and it will be turned on later that day. I was very new at AirBnb so I said OK and we took the apartment.

Of course, there's no cable or TV hours later. Then we read the message on the TV screen that said something like "Call this number to restore your service" (in Spanish, of course). So we call the number and learn that service will be restored when the outstanding bill is paid. This piece of shit host didn't pay the bill, lied to us, and expected us to sit in that apartment for a week without cable or internet.

Anyway, what I learned from this is that if you take the apartment, AirBnb will not do shit even if the host blatantly lied about everything. You accepted it. However, if you refuse the apartment (I've done this later), AirBnb will bend over backwards to help you.

I had a reservation in Thailand where the Russian host decided that she wanted a deposit when I arrived, and that I would have to pay for electricity and water and gas over and above the price I had already paid. AirBnb did all kinds of shit, including translators and multiple phone calls to "save the reservation" as they put it. They did not "save the reservation" and gave me a $50 credit because I refused the apartment. I literally had to use my phone at the airport to book another place at 7pm at night.
