I think there are many who think the "income generating" stock portfolio is a lot of marketing and BS.

Good companies bought at a good price generate income. You can get that income through dividends AND through selling stock after it appreciates.

Risky high dividend stocks can hurt you in the long run.

Extreme example, But would your rather have an ETF that pays a 6% dividend or an ETF that will double in price in 2 years?

Diversification. Stocks, bonds, real estate. Consider price appreciation not just dividends.
