Iowa City police fire tear gas at protesters

I'm for peaceful protest. Don't even for a second think that I'm not. When I saw the initial picture of George Floyd my first thought was why the fuck is this officer's knee on the back of his neck like that? The whole Daniel Shaver incident was fucked up. Before reading anything I watched the whole video from beginning to end and I hate to say this but I actually said out loud " they are looking to smoke this guy ". Accountability is a must in this field and I have said it in the past that even I, a person who works in the law enforcement field, feel like patrol officers are way to protected. I can be sued civilly and hung high and I get paid way less and have less training than patrol officers get. A patrol officer can't be sued civilly on top of all the other goodies they get.

Does some kind of reform need to happen? absolutely. The one common thing I've heard about the academy is they don't teach you enough there. Its expensive to send someone to and its a lot of time and money that goes into certifying someone. Its nothing unusual for a dirty cop to get picked up at another agency and that's why. My problem with everything thats going on right now is you have some people who are doing things in a correct and positive way and then you have everyone else who is taking advantage of a tragedy. The protest in Le Claire park in Davenport was great and the one by the Riverboat in Clinton was great but blocking traffic or blocking roadways isn't needed. That maybe in your mind a peaceful protest but all these people are doing is blocking everyone else from going about their daily lives. If you ask me there is a lot of shit on both sides of the spectrum right now but with the current trend of riot, loot and now we are committing ARSON I think you can expect quick aggressive measures being taken.
