[IP] Field of Dreams

World renowned Endless Delirium Technologies was at the cusp of a global revolution- of sorts. The day had finally come, where a human, from days of past Earth was about to be informally resuscitated. A human species revival was about to take place. The first of its kind actually. Quite an amazing spectacle to watch for many. Protocol has to be followed to the letter in order for this to work. Everyone present in the room knows how much their careers ride on this moment. One fragment of a percentage off and the whole thing could be ruined. The test subject would be suspended in a dreamlike state forever. Still alive- but unable to wake up. A literal endless delirium. Nobody knew (and could know) how this would affect the already faltering purview of Endless Delirium Technology. But then again, the only reason nobody really liked it was because they knew absolutely nothing about it. The boss was very secretive about the operations and ongoing alternate treatments they conducted. But this, this, was a first. There are many vicariously beating hearts in the room as they prepare to initiate the procedure. Namely the head of operations this afternoon, Dr. Heidy. He was the center of attention today. Many would hail him a medical saint if this whole thing went off without a hitch. He would have successfully developed a plan to revive human specimens from the past that could be used over and over: possibly finding out more about the past human species and what they had to offer planet Earth. It was an intricate procedure that involved many different modern technologies. He of all doctors could be the one to drive it home. A win for EDT is a win for everyone on Mars. After all the research, thesis writing and paperwork. It was a welcome step- or leap forward. The windows wrapping the room in the facility let in the slowly disappearing rays of afternoon sun. The specialist treated steel beams reflected the light brilliantly. It was an oddly palpable mood that lingered in the air. Even the doctor’s understudy, Jayden Madero or, affectionately called "Hunter", had gone into a purely work driven state of mind. This was all they could focus on right now. He checked the prerequisite stats so many times he knew them off by heart and the percentile rate at which they dropped off or where possible, fluctuated. But for the most part they were stable. He made a mental note of that and began running through the pre-requisites for the sake of the experiment. Not because he needed to but because he wanted to. A team comprised of temporarily "allocated" Mars government officials and security guards stand outside of the door as Dr. Heidy readies himself to give the go- ahead. He communicates only with his assistant Kimberly with the exception of a few numbers read aloud to the group in order for them to take note and record the timestamps accordingly.

The HUB officials (default government formed on Mars once Earth was exhumed completely) were a hardened people. Many of whom were unable to show emotions of any sort, thanks given to the grueling training they had to complete upon arrival. The hub was renowned for employing only the toughest of the tough. Once what seemed like peak anticipation had been reached they finally get the go ahead to commence the procedure. All hands on deck. The last few stat displaying LED monitors get switched on while the unexpected sit-in visitor finds a seat by the door. The man, who was all decked out in navy blue, sat in the corner of the room studiously watching on with childlike wonder. The same man who up until now was entirely estranged to the medical team albeit still heavily involved in the ‘specimen revival’ selection process. Everyone began whispering among each other. Why would HE be HERE? In fact, his presence was not expected this evening at all. He had plucked up the courage to attend after hearing that the men working toward the revival of this elusive and severely under-developed species were highly trained, but had already forewarned him that his utterly bizarre request would simply not work. Dr. Heidy, a four year veteran on the newly habitable planet Mars, took on the challenge unknowing the consequences of a failure.

A second too soon would mean that the entire experiment would collapse in on itself. The room falls silent. Everyone inside watches the chamber in front of them in nervous anticipation.

He- the subject- appears to have had took his first breath- but only one and only as a reflex. But it was still a sign. A sign that this might just work. Dr. Meddlin takes over from Heidy and initiates the second essential part of the revival. Hunter curses himself. He somehow thinks it was his fault. Maybe he did initiate the flow of oxygen too soon.Dr. Meddlin appropriates the parameters once again, this time allowing for further manipulation than before. They all secretly wonder if that is the right thing to do, but take no action against his decision. Dr. Meddlin was the senior head of operations in all of the medical centre. Surely he knows what he is doing. Adrian, the boss in blue, sits back down and slumps into his seat. Maybe he had lost all hope, or maybe he had just resigned interest after the first attempt failed. Whatever it was, the doctors saw this as an opportunity to deliver.

All monitors indicate a prime environment. He begins to send a much larger shock to the cerebral cortex. Their ears are all met with a sound similar to nails scratching on a blackboard. And then a massive buzzing noise.
Sparks erratically fly out of the central chamber.

Time speeds up. Rapidly.

“Reece” she whispers. He looks into her eyes shyly as she nods in his general direction. “Believe it or not” she sighs, “you are my only source of true happiness..” “until you walk out that door” she swallows the bitter disappointment in her mouth. “and it hurts like hell to know that you might not even make it back to give me another kiss"

“Selina got real mad last night ma..”
“I couldn’t tell her that I was willing to turn this down though” he puts his head on the table beside his cup. A few tears escape his eyes.

“Tell her. If I don’t come back” his mother shakes her head again, unwilling to listen to his departing words. “Just tell her it’s okay to move on” he pleads. “Pray for me” he tells her sternly. “Because that’s all I really need from you right now” “I will, and so will everyone else” she promises between sobs. She reaches for the tissues and dabs them away. “and even if I don’t make it, you can still think of all the good times” This made her cry even harder. It was going to be so hard to say goodbye to him. But unlike his fiance Selina, she knew this is something she wasn’t going to be able to stop. Reece was a very head-strong man. Nothing will change his mind.

The body on the table was appearing as if to be resonating light. A dim, but visible light. How could it be? It illuminated the chamber softly. Everyone present in the room stares in awe...

and then the light suddenly disappears.
