Yeah, because those things have never happened among atheists. And religious people have never done things like help the poor or inspire beautiful art.

You could put this in the dictionary as a prime example of a strawman argument. Nobody claimed that no church has ever helped the poor or that it's never inspired impressive art. Nobody is claiming that there's never been a shitty atheistic person.

But that hardly exonerates religion from the far worse amount of harm it often causes, which I think is the main point people are making here.

Crusades and Jihads resulting in the deaths of millions? A worldwide child molestation ring? Executing women for not being covered up? Hating people for being gay? Tax exemption? Taking advantage of the poor?

Oh but yeah, it helps make nice art and there's some soup kitchens here and there. /s
