The irony of !timetravelHarry

Yeah, and too often he tries hard to pReSerVe tHe TiMeLine. Heck, I've seen fics where Harry tries so hard to preserve things that he tries to get the canon ships going (assuming he comes from the canon timeline).

Like, what's the use in time-travelling decades back if you're just going to let things play out the same? This can range from things like the canon ships, letting the Triwizard Tournament happen (in hindsight, I get that the Voldemort-Lily's-blood thing is important, but still), being unable to save Cedric, not trying to save Dumbledore from the ring, etc.

If you're going to try so hard to have Harry preserve the timeline, then why bother with time travel? In fact, why bother with fanfiction at all if it's going to be this level of rehash? I'm not much of a fan of when fanfics stick too close to canon, including ships, moments, or even the so-called 'missing moments'.

Some resemblance to canon is all right (I'm not a fan of total AUs either), but it's a fine line between total rehash and having some familiar moments play out. But time travel? That's super annoying when Harry let's certain/too many events play out either like in canon or whatever happened in his timeline.
