[Irwin] LeBron and Chris Paul are put in lose-lose situations. Being the heads of the union, they have to accept full contracts at their peak rate. Taking less is basically a disservice to their titles. Doing so while the Warriors keep taking less means they have no chance at competing.

If they are smart they will try to argue that maximum player salaries are the issue and not the salary cap. The players are already getting paid less than what some ownership groups would be willing to pay them, why wouldn't they take a marginally smaller amount to win championships, gain endorsements etc...

I think it would be an interesting argument. Obviously the salary cap is off the table, but max player salaries haven't really worked out the way they were supposed to from the average NBA player/role player perspective.

It was supposed to mean more money for the non-superstars, but now the superstars are taking bigger paycuts which drags the whole system down possibly further than it would in a salary cap environment without max player contracts.
