IsItBullshit: That charcoal toothpaste I keep seeing ads for, does it really work as well as they claim?

There are two kinds of tooth stains, one is on the surface and the other kind is deep down. Surface stain can be more easily removed by many home methods such as brushing with baking soda etc. Activated charcoal is an excellent absorbent and abrasive material so it could work, but there are other cheaper methods with ingredients you already have that you might want to try first. In addition many products claiming to contain activated charcoal has a slight blue stain which counteracts the yellowness and makes your teeth appear more white immediately after, but the result is not permanent.

If you have deep stain however you will have to get them removed by a dentist.
