Islamophobia and Liberal Feminism

Yeah, is agree. It was all very libfem. "Individual motivations." I'm sorry but ain't nobody got the time to assess the minutiae of every single person's individual motivations to rationalize things. But we can look at broader, societal conditions that influence the decisions people make.

I know many Muslim people. Many women who do cover their hair, many who do not. Some it is a political statement against the xenophobia Muslims face. But I also see those "unwrapped lollipop" (a lovely metaphor for would you want to eat an unwrapped lollipop? No gross, dirty and undesirable. So you wouldn't want to be with an unwrappped woman either, also gross, dirty, and undersirable) posts from leaders in the Muslim community pop up on my social media feeds sometimes. The people I know personally condem shit like that, but I also see the hundreds of other commenters who agree with that messaging. Of course there are girls internalizing the message that they are dirty and undesireable if they are uncovered.

Men don't want you to cover... god does!
