Issues with Teacher Rant from Jensen Karp episode

I think if you called in and told him about the extra effort you put in he'd congratulate you but claim youre a rarity. I dont know what its like in the U.S. But in Ontario, Canada high school teachers make up to $80,000 and aren't obligated to do any extra curriculars. They essentialy cannot be fired, get 7-8 weeks off for summer, get a week at Christmas and a week at Easter, and all other statutory holidays. They also have a great retirement package. All you need is four years undergrad and one year of teacher's college. They also get sick days and i vacation days (that are paid and they might call them personal days). It is a little difficult to get in now but coming from my brother who has worked "normal" jobs his whole life and is now a teacher, he says he thinks most teachers haven't worked "normal" jobs ever for how much they complain about being a teacher. He works 6 hours a day which includes a 40 minute lunch and a one hour spare. The only downside he said is for new teachers because they have to put together a teaching plan for each course but its essentially the same each year so once you have it, you have it for the rest of your career. Basically the first few years a little tough for that reason but that reason alone. For a guy who has worked manual labour, other blue collar, and even low and high position white collar jobs he says this is the easiest, most enjoyable, and best job he's ever had. He chooses to extra curriculars like coaching a couple sport teams but says if you use your spare to grade papers you shouldn't have more than an hour of grading/planning after work - 2 hours on tough days but thats not even 7 hours of work on the long end. Now like my brother I don't dispairage teachers, sometimes I wish I had become one for those reasons I listed. On Adam I think he loses some of his decent points in his head pretty often and goes a little to the extreme out of some kind of frustration. But under the anger, and hyperbole are often great points and ideas you just have to pull them out and polish them. Tbh didn't even sell myself on the "often" part...not as of late anyway. Just a different perspective but congrats for going the extra mile esp. for kids who really need it. P.S. First post, long-time lurker
