I've had a really bad day. What are you angry about folks at AskWomen? Let's unleash some frustration.

My work. I'm working for baby-boomer small-business owners in luxury-goods retail, who developed a business model that relied on heavy discounts and flaunting dept. fair trading regulations regarding sales. (I know, I'm a fucking idiot for being here and not leaving long ago)

I'm sorry that sales are down since we had to adjust our pricing and advertise lower percentages, and I'm sorry our country is experiencing a consumer imposed state of austerity, but it's not our fault. Sit behind your desk and blame your staff for your shitty returns all you want, but the simple fact is you trained your customers to expect X and now you're offering them Y and without a significant amount of work on our part to explain the new system you wouldn't be getting any fucking money through the door.

Good staff are abandoning this ship like sensible people would. This wouldn't bother me except for the fact I've basically been put in a position where short of contracting a terminal illness, I can't leave without risking an utterly scathing reference from my employer of the last seven years - i know, i should have jumped ship earlier on, but in the current climate I'll be pushing uphill to get another job. And I'm having to have "you're not performing" conversations with people who i know are working their asses off to do the best they can possibly do - and any time i tell my boss something to the effect of "they're seriously doing the best they can but a mentality has been built in our demographic that simply will not break" they either refuse to accept reality or it's somehow my fault.

On the plus side I've learned exactly how to not run a business.
