[IWantOut] 28M DE -> Florida

I live in the Miami area. Perfect for Brazilians. There are many people from BR here already. Furthermore the further south in Miami-Dade / Broward you go the more Spanish becomes the standard. And Spanish from Portuguese is fairly easy. The COL is relatively high with the US-wide increase in home prices already. My recommendation would be to rent an apartment (should be feasible) for 2 to 3 years whilst you a) establish a 760+ credit score (start with a secured credit card, then other credit cards + car loan(s) and b) save for a considerable downpayment). Once you go north from Port Saint Lucy you go into subtropical weather and increasingly colder the more north you go. Being fluent in Portuguese and adding Spanish fast will also boost your long-term employability. Some limited downsides are the high traffic + population density in SE FL. Plus HOI insurance is a bit of a bear + older homes with older roofs and/or limited or no / outdated hurricane mitigation. We are relocating to NE FL (JAX) next year hopefully for a lower COL. As a non-Latin person the job situation is not that great in SE FL.
