Jürgen Klopp: "Even for La Liga teams, it would be difficult to win the EPL. Real Madrid & Barça would be fighting for everything, but it'd be very difficult. Nothing is certain in EPL. The intensity is very high and many things can happen. You can't win 4-0 comfortably and rest your first XI."

You cannot compare.

There are, however, reasons to argue the PL is more demanding, and that is down to our scheduling. That is also why our national team, allegedly, falls short of expectations.

Not that we should be winning, we're actually punching above our weight in terms of population size with regards to the size of our talent pool.

I don't believe that Barca, Bayern, PSG, Real, Atletico, Dortmund, Juventus, etc etc would walk the fixtures. The compound effect it has, and the physicality is very demanding. A few teams would be able to handle that regularly from overseas. But would inevitably fall short with injuries and fatigue. Not to mention the way games are officiated.

I'm not saying we're special, but we are different. In the same sense that if most PL teams regularly played in Germany, Spain, Italy we would struggle with such things as...

  • Refereeing decisions
  • Strongly disciplined teams may bode well in Italy, i.e I think Atletico would be brilliant there but would many PL teams?
  • Can we keep a cool head with advanced theatrical diving? I bet not.
  • A lot of teams will be picked open with disciplined passing over the game. We're getting better at that, but not perfect.

There are a handful of teams that I think could adapt quickly. The key one that stands out is Atletico. Strong players, disciplined.
