Why Jagged Line is actually brilliant

I disagree with this interpretation, although I think it is very cleaver.

Jagged Line, to me, is about the rise of a focus on the indivdual performer in drum corps show design.

Last year, Down Side Up had performers actual heads visible without any head gear, thereby connecting each member with the audience in a way never seen before. The show design focused on the excitement that each performer contributed to the show, not any plot that needed to be progressed.

This year the performers often have their own body movements and poses that they go through, always followed by joining back into unison with the whole group. Again, the show does not seem to have any actual plot that the performers need to "act out", the entire show is about the excitement that indivduals contribute to the performance. While other corps have shows where a story is taking place that would be ruined for the audience if we were somehow reminded that each performer is a unique person, the Bluecoats have litterally created a show around that idea.
