Not necessarily. There were several extremely wealthy people in the Bible. Abraham. David. Solomon. Job. Sheba. Probably alot more if I did more research. The Catholic Church has a fund in the tens of billions of dollars. Every king in Western society and history claimed divine right as their authority to rule and none of them were impoverished. I think the passage is supposed to be meant to say that no man should put money over God, because at the end of the day, it's paper. It's worthless. You can't take it with you. I have a hard time imagining God wanting people to be poor and starving though. He just wants people to trust in him, not money. And then when you add in the fact that there were several people in the Bible that were rich yet favored by God that reasoning that being rich is wrong becomes muddled.
