Japanese exchange student Yoshihiro Hattori got the wrong address to a Halloween party, gets shot dead for knocking on the door. Jury acquitted homeowner of manslaughter in 3 hours.

I disagree. I think we can set reasonable limitations without banning them.

Sure, like you can not have ammo in your possession and are only allowed to transport firearms disassembled to and from a shooting range or point of sale. Also, only use them at certified shooting ranges.

But none of that will ever be feasible due to gun culture, paranoia, and the fact that there are so many of them that it'd be impossible to get them all. Or even a fraction.

Besides, swords are designed for murder, as are bows and arrows. Should we ban those too?

They are much harder to use, easier to evade, and are really hard to threaten a crowd with. A bow is not point and click, and a sword wielding maniac is taken down by a taser with ease. Or a well aimed brick, lol. That said, yeah i think swords should not be allowed to be sharpenable (soft steel) and (cross)bows should follow the same laws as firearms.
