Japanese government 厚生労働省(Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare) thinks a definition of Hikikomori is 【A person who doesn't go school/works besides hardly interact with people other than family members, and has been be a Shut-in for more 6 months at home】. (Sorry for bad English)

You're half right. There are people wanting to wear it as a badge of honor. On a regular basis there are teenagers asking how to become a hikikomori. This isn't a good place to end up in life. So you see it's more about steering people away from making mistakes which can't be undone. There is no getting back the part of life that is wasted away. The time spent is can't be gotten back. It's less about gatekeeping SJW reasons or whatever bullshit.

It makes no sense to ask a schizo how to become full blown shizo who cannot function in society. It makes no sense to ask a drug addict how to go on a permanent bender and fuck up their life. In the same way it makes no sense to ask hikikomori how to rot away for years and years shut away from society.

And yeah there are those who meme and larp but that's just the way of the internet these days.
