I think language is important here OP. While we can recognize that Jason is abusive towards Kylen, we can also recognized that this may be driven by mental illness and substance use. I work with violent offenders and w my work- it is the appropriate place to offer empathy towards them bc they often times have been victims themselves and need to process. The goal there is that once they are released, if they are, they are less likely to hurt others again.

In this forum- I don’t see the advantage of it, unless it’s to keep Jasons symptoms from increasing in severity due to online bullying (thus further taking it out on others and isolating himself and Kylen). The drug thing seems to me very “do as I say, but not as I do” - which may signal that some level of awareness is present that he sees some of his behavior related to drug use as problematic. It’s really impossible to know what is going on. If I had to absolutely guess a diagnosis without any further information, I would lean towards personality disorders- which are highly difficult to treat and usually stem from trauma.
