Jeff Bezos Ex-Wife Mackenzie Scott donates 1.7 Billion to HBCU’s, 2.7 Billion to Charities and Covid Relief

How do you know?

Firstly, if it's a flat rate, most authors books don't make anything or sell anything, so are the editors/publishers bringing less value?

Two, I imagine a publisher gets percentage of sales, you don't think they got rich off of someone else's creative work?

Rowling wrote that first book literally on her own, pitched it to a dozen publishers who said no. Finally one said yes, printed just 50,000 copies, the book blew up, then that publisher had it's meal ticket punched for almost no risk. Sounds to me the publishers get paid exactly what they are worth. This is exactly how things should work. If you inspire millions of people for $50 a head, you've earned it. And shoot, you could check those books out at a public library if you didn't have the money to buy it.

The tactics employed by people like Bezos are unethical, cutthroat, and couldn't happen without the expense of others. Amazon operated at a loss for years and years just to capture market share which is another word for putting people out of business because they had the ability to raise venture capital to cover losses on the promise they could turn on the faucet whenever they wanted. No small to medium sized business could ever compete with that.

All Rowling did was put her thoughts onto a page and inspired a generation to read.

Comparing an author to a tech billionaire is lunacy.
