Jeff Bezos: Work-Life Balance Is 'Debilitating Phrase'

I know what he's talking about and it's not a new concept. We have a phrase(can't post it without doxing myself) at my company that describes a work/life balance. The program provides the employee flexibility with the job to allow for stronger emphasis on life and family. What this means is as long as you do your job and do it well your boss doesn't chain you to a desk for a specified amount of time. However, I feel, the implication here is that when required you will be accountable and responsible to put in the extra hours or after hours if it's necessary.

So it's very much about establishing a two way street. It has worked incredibly well for me but I know some people can't handle it. Those people end up talking advantage of the conditions and then basically being micromanaged.
