Jeff Gerstmann's Mixlr: SJWs killed cartoons!

Please note that English isn't my first language so the following text might be gibberish. Also, this is coming from the heart.

I'll go ahead and play devil's advocate here and say that I kind of get where this guy is coming from.

Before you start ganging up on me, no, I don't think he's right about what he's saying and I don't think he's being a pleasant person. I just understand where he's coming from. I'd argue that video games are a big part of his life and defines a large part of his person. When he sees a piece from a certain games writer or a certain post on twitter, he's probably afraid that the negative perception that person has of "gamers" might make its way into mainstream culture and that the identity of "gamer " might be automatically associated with "nerdy misogynistic neckbeard" by the public at large. He's also probably thinking that those writers probably have way more power on mainstream culture that they actually have. Hence, the whole "cabal of game writers" thing Jeff is talking about. What he's probably doing is hanging out on /r/kotakuInAction or 4chan's /v/ board where people post about "crazy SJWs antics" all the time. Go on either of those places and you'll see people posting article after article about people bashing certain games for being too sexy or violent or whatever. The truth is, those kind of articles are not that common but, ironically, people on /v/ and /r/KiA go after these articles like they WANT to be affected. This reinforces the idea in their head of how "horrible SJWs are".

CGP Grey has a fantastic video on this.

I used to be like that guy a bit. I used to frequent /v/ for shits n' giggles but then /v/ started to get obsessed with certain games writer and I started to feel insecure about myself. Gaming is a huge part of my life and a big part of what defines me. I started to question myself and ask myself if the mainstream really saw me has a sexist, racist worthless piece of shit. After that, I took a step back, and started to see the big picture. No they don't. To most people, I'm just me, a person. Most people don't give a damn that I love Video Games. If I tell someone that I love Video Games and they reply : "Oh, you must be a sexist/racist piece of garbage" well that person has serious issues.

Video games are a massive business . It's bigger than it has ever been. The amount of variety is amazing. There are games for everyone. If you want artsy stuff, a bunch of cool Indy games exist. If you want crazy violent stuff, it's still there and it's not stopping. GTA and Mortal Kombat are still being made and rake in the money. You want some cleavage in your games? Well DoA and Senran Kagura games are still being made if that's your thing. People will always criticize whatever art form exist and video games aren't being targeted in a special way, it's always has been a thing.

I'll finish this with something SuperBunnyHop said that I found very powerful.

Sorry if this got rambly, I had to get it out of my chest.
