Honestly that’s only half of it. The alt-right, gunwits are now finding and interpreting biblical passages as Jesus’s command to own guns. I’ve seen the following passage used every time NPR posts an article about gun violence.

Of course this appeals to the lowest educated, lowest information citizens! “It’s not just the 2nd amendment, Machine Gun Jesus himself told me to buy a gun.” They ignore a later gospel passage stating that to live by the sword means you die by the sword, and Jesus’s order to sheath the weapon goes unread.
