Jeremy Corbyn on Twitter: Tories want to make it harder for people to vote. At the local elections in May voters in five areas will be turned away if they don't have official identification and the Tories want to roll this out at the next General Election.

Gosh I’m sorry I forgot labour were to blame for everything! I should have mentioned them -.-Regardless of party, in person voter fraud carries a big risk of the person having already voted or at least the fraudster being identified, and to be frank, for very little gain. In order to swing something it would have to be on a large scale, and there is zero evidence of this (20-30 cases out of tens of millions of votes or something). Voter ID would easily stop thousands who pass the polls and realised they’re without ID, then just not bothered going back. Postal votes are up for manipulation, but you’d either have to intercept mail, pressure a vulnerable person or steal an identity. While all are possible and potentially less traceable than in person voter fraud, I can’t see why anyone would bother. The effort required to fraudulently take someone else’s vote would probably be far greater than if you just went out and campaigned to change people’s minds. At the end of the day it’s a waste of resources to push further checks, and it may reduce turnout. If the object is to increase democracy to allow everyone to be heard, then these ID checks are going to be counter productive. If the object is to marginalise groups without valid ID, then you win.
